Oh, come on! Don't get down 'cause you caught me sleeping around. Oh, come on! Slow down! Well, the lights go down while we sit here. And the night hits with a switch thats when the neon catches your figure and it bleeds onto me. You got me running from my name. Drinking, just trying to stay sane. Oh, come on! Slow down. When a hurricane touches your window and the clouds are all green. you can grab all that you love most. Come hide down here with me! Slow down! Slow down! Slow down!

living smooth and free along The Way. Living like Skywise, like Cutter and Dewshine. With a crown of green. Skipping stones with a Wolfrider. Casting my life curl down the channel. Hitchhiking the moon. Making up for the distance. Life! Lake! Stream! Thats how we live in it Out here on the green. In the now of the wolf-thought. Out here on the green . OOOOOooooooo!!!!!!!! Picking a home from among the trees that grow between the woods and the lakes. From the river to the ocean! Life! Lake! Stream! Thats how we live in it Out here on the green. In the now of the wolf-thought. Out here on the green . OOOOOooooOOOooOOOOO!!!!!!!

The Thief 03:38
In the cold cold night these eyes keep searching for an open door. A light to replace an old love. Somewhere up in the melody there is a feeling stronger than touch than mourning. The city's taking your hand tonight but i'm not changing my mind. Who can say what i find isn't mine? Who's the thief when ownership is the crime? More than music we want mourning! we want morning! Somewhere up in the melody there is a feeling stronger than touch.

Of Two Minds 02:34
You are trying to live right with a sense of vision and agency c'mon, lets try it Satiation backed by some courtesy All my love for you and all my pain all my care for you and all of your disdain Who am I to you? I love you you and you love me but these wild hearts have got to be free what do we get for the price of some tears? We've got blue diamond hearts, we've got souvenirs We sing into pillows when we tighten the bond we steal kisses and in a ally we sling our crystal ball against the wall take me away ho-chain take me away ho-chain Who am i to you?

On The Way 03:08
"Think about it this way, your'e just the donor. You come cheap and it's not like you'd be the dad!" We got one kid already and now your partner want's my baby. Is that right? Let's find out what happens when we break down when all we've got is each-other and keeping her heart alive. When we were married we made commitments. Now that its over, does that mean that we were wrong? Bae fuck what they say we live our own way making a new world for a new girl on the way. Let's find out what happens when we break down when all we've got is each-other and keeping her heart alive. She's on the way! She's on the way! She's on the way! Man. We're making a mixture. She's on the way! She's on the way! She's on the way! Sono sonogram picture. She's on the way! She's on the way! She's on the way! Come and meet the new baby. Let's find out what happens when we break down when all we've got is each-other and keeping her heart alive. Let's find out what happens when we break down when all we've got is each-other and keeping her heart alive.

I look across the tidal lake. I see an eagle flying high above me. and I know it's the spirit of his kin flowing deep within him. Yeah, he was born a wild animal. shot out just like a cannon ball. Yeah, he was born with his eyes open wide in a cabin on the lakeside. Ah-ah ah-ah ah-ah ah, oh o oh. I want you to get out, embrace the world. Check out the wind in the leaves sound. Bliss out, thats what it's all about. The summer sun was just about to set. The moon came up right behind it. The moss grew thick under the windy spruce. The trees grip on their leaves was getting loose. The boats are pointed in the same direction. The birds are getting ready for migration. I want you to get out, embrace the world. Check out the wind in the leaves sound. Bliss out, thats what it's all about.

It's getting cold again this year. I'm thinking about you. How the last time we touched you were so like the change in weather. Your hands, they stopped shaking. Grown cold, but stopped shaking. There's lamb on the table again this spring. Now i stand in your place to cut. We pray while my hands travel thru and thru and thru... Your heart, we watched it breaking. Your life, we let you take it. Your hands, they stopped shaking. grown cold, but stopped shaking.

Salad Greens 04:45
Swaying on a hammock In a breezy balmy weather Drifting in and out of a restless dreamy slumber well i watch a butterfly floating on a soft breeze, and i feel like I'm kind of floatin'. My mind is wandering. Picking salad greens in a garden by the ocean. I'm riding on a planet in an orbit 'round the sun. well I watch the butterfly floating on a soft breeze. and I feel like i'm a-kinda floatin' My mind is wandering. Im gonna lie on the couch. I'm gonna stare at the wall. Think about the universe, and how we're all so small.

Ooo we had such fun that night when you came out to me and i realized that all we are is a collection of seams two sided at best, when we were thrown together we were shallow, it was vague, we left our problems all unsolved. I love Ursula she's a reversible girl. When we tried to kiss you fell to pieces. Now I'm confused by you. How does it feel living beyond context. Laying in the dark in a bed of photo-grey. I love Ursula she's a reversible girl Whenever I take you out I loose a piece of you. It's been forever but I've done you so many times I think I'll stash you behind my 4-Track. I think I'll stash you behind my 4-Track

After the show I was all alone. Driving in my car, oh it's so far. Driving late at night, all that i can see is whats illuminated right in front of me. I don't want to listen to the radio 'cause my ears are ringing. Baby! When I got home everybody was asleep. The silence so complete I could hear my heart beat. The rhythm so consistent my imagination was distantly dreaming. I just want to be an animal with wings, a bird of paradise. Wouldn't that be nice? I'd fly close above the dunes rummage on the beach float on the clear blue sea. I can't think of a thing that i would rather be than beautiful and free Oh i just want to be an animal with wings a bird of paradise. Wouldn't that be nice?

about

Each release from The Cups is held onto like a treasure, a glimpse of aural paradise. On this, their fifth release, they grapple with many of the balances we know of The Cups: the explosive, the exuberant, the way of lightning and dragons versus the obsession with the golden, transfixed. The Cups are an arcane band, working with eldritch forces. Here they push the struggle further: the result is a sonic composition that reaches the same heights as any previous release, but also, we find greater contrast, detail. This is an album of Spring, of the vernal, flowers opening, moss aglow. But it does not limit itself to the natural. There is a deliciousness to the exploration. Hear the roar of car engines, static on the radio, tape and electricity. There is a maturity to the groove and a prominent evolution to the storytelling. “On the Way” gives us the most evocative lyrics since “Leadfoot Fighter.” The sunrise glow of “Of Two Minds” washes us in atmospheric splendor while maintaining an open highway rhythm. The walking-line funk of “A Change In Weather” gives a honkey-tonk that’s new to the band, and yet, one can picture perfectly the movement of Matt Cups’ hips. Ian Cups’ voice has always been vaulting, but on “Spirit of his Kin” we are sent higher than the proverbial eagle, reaching a deep commune with the numinous.
Stay Wild, you spirits of paradise.
